Design — Poster for Science & Technology Run 2010

The shoelace was great. So. this year the expectations are higher. Can I pull it off?

On 11-Apr-2010, IISc Alumni Cell is organising ‘Science & Technology Run’ or better known as ‘SnT Run.’ I got a chance to do the branding work. I have handled the branding of SnT Run of 2008. People liked the banners and posters very much: especially the ‘shoelace’ one. Read the full story here.

So here I am, trying to outrun myself.

Design – Campaign for ‘dpe’

One lazy afternoon in November. I was chatting with my friends Pavan and Pankaj. We were discussing about cute product designs featured in a website and were admiring the designers. Suddenly, we had a spark: “Can we organize a design competition for such products in our college department (CPDM, IISc Bangalore) among the students?”

Thus ‘dpe’ was born. ‘dpe’ means ‘Design | Participate | Excel.’ I made plans for a teaser kind of series ads to generate interest among the students.

Design – Poster for IISc Soccer League

“A good, vibrant coloured football action photograph (like a bicycle kick or a slide-in tackle or netting-in the ball or a fight for the ball in the air) to your liking.”

This was one of the requirements I received from my friend describing the image to be put on a poster announcing the registration for a Soccer League.

As always, I designed three posters.

Design — Poster for Magazine: 2

“Raise your voice…”

antzFx400branding00
‘Voices’ is a student magazine in my college with the slogan ‘Raise your voice, let yourself be heard!’ I got a chance to design posters that ask students to be a part of the magazine.

One of my earlier attempts of poster design for this same magazine can be found here.

The year 2008
This is the time to stop, ponder and observe where a person stands in this journey called life. We, at antzFx, are fortunate to execute some designs, some people liked some of them and some recognition and criticism came our way. We will be recording all our adventures in 2009 too in this space.

Dear reader, we wish you a happy and prosperous New Year 2009! May all your dreams come true…

Design: Poster — 365 days at work

First year of professional life is a milestone in any fresher’s life. It’s the point where he/she gets to shed their “fresher” title. Last month was the transition period for eleven of us. We wanted to have a quiet celebration.

What is more appropriate than a poster?

I was all set except for an idea. Since I wanted to cook something simple, I rejected all the obvious ideas that flooded my mind — a cake with a lighted candle, a one rupee note with our names on it, etc. With every passing idea not working, I became disheartened.

Chaos to Clarity

A flashback of the last one year puzzled me more and clouded my thoughts. What was I doing all these time? What did I leave behind? People were not amazed about me; but nonetheless they were impressed. After all, I am leaving my mark in the corporate space. Suddenly everything fell into place. I knew what I had to do; what I had to write; the confusion simply vaporized. So, the flashback did do me good.

Layout

Since we have been imprinting our impressions on each and everyone we come across, the punch line could be nothing but

“We have been leaving our prints all over company for the last one year now”

With a thumb-impression and snapshots of my fellow ex-freshers, the poster was complete.

Afterword

Seeing the poster, one of my seniors exclaimed, “So you people were responsible for the pile of printouts around the printer!”

Design — Poster for Magazine

“Smile please…” requests a press photographer.
“Autograph please…” requests one of my fans.
“Wow!” A child couldn’t hide her surprise when she saw me waving at the crowd.
“Well, I think…” I mumble when my opinion is sought by the TV crew on an international political situation.

I am famous. I am a celebrity. I am a star.

Who doesn’t want to be popular?

Design — Logo for Barcamp Bangalore 7

“+1 Neat one. Definitely. But, may be aesthetically a bit too big on the T-shirt!”
“+1 For fitting entire idea to one theme.”
“+1 It says everything about Barcamp. Looks new and fresh”

A designer tries to convey an idea through a design. If others are connecting to the same idea, the design is a success. As a designer, I am very happy after seeing the above comments for my logo design from people who are strangers to me.

Introduction

BarCamp is an international network of user generated conferences — open, participatory workshop-events, whose content is provided by participants — often focusing on early-stage web applications, and related open source technologies, social protocols, and open data formats. The original logo is created by Eris Stassi.

Barcamp has an arm in Bangalore, India. They are conducting a technology workshop this week (13 and 14 September) and this is its seventh edition. A contest was organised by Barcamp to design a logo for the event that will eventually appear in posters, banners and t-shirts. When I came to know about the contest from my brother, I decided to take the plunge.
